India batting star Smriti Mandhana has become the leading run-scorer in women’s international cricket after a record-breaking performance at the Women’s Asia Cup in Dubai.

Mandhana passed former India captain Mithali Raj’s career tally of 10,868 international runs while scoring 124 from just 64 deliveries against Hong Kong.

The innings helped India secure a commanding 137-run victory and confirmed their place in the semi-finals of the T20 tournament.

Mandhana’s performance also took her to the top of another major all-format record.

The 30-year-old now has 18 centuries in women’s international cricket, moving ahead of Australia’s Meg Lanning and South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt, who have 17 each.

Mandhana has scored two centuries in Test cricket, two in T20 internationals and 14 in one-day internationals.

She said after the match that she had not been aware of the exact number of runs required to break the career record while she was batting.

Mandhana also paid tribute to Mithali Raj, describing the former India captain as a legend and a role model.

Her record-setting innings included 14 fours and seven sixes.

Powered by Mandhana’s century, India posted 193 for five.

India’s bowlers then dismissed Hong Kong for just 56, completing a 137-run win.

The result sent India through to the Women’s Asia Cup semi-finals while giving Mandhana two significant individual milestones in the same match.

By surpassing Raj in career runs and moving ahead of Lanning and Wolvaardt in international centuries, Mandhana strengthened her place among the most prolific batters in the history of women’s cricket.
